2. LRT Station with adjoining shops and flats. 1935-6. Welch and Lander.
Brick, some concrete; flat roof. Station with circular booking hall and
tower to left and quadrant curving block of shops adjoining to right.
Booking hall of double height, having central canopied entrance to Western
Avenue, the upper part of facade comprising circular drum with continuous
clerestory. Square tower attached to right with vertical brick fluting
in panel to centre of each face, rising to circular panels carrying LRT
motif. Projecting concrete cornice with blue tiled edge to both tower
and booking hall. Adjoining to right, 3 storey parade of shops with
flats over. Shops separated by ceramic clad piers; plate glass windows.
Ribbon windows above, closely spaced metal mullions and frames throughout
scheme.
Interior of station with fluted piers rising to form brackets supporting
roof of circular booking hall; ticket office; stairways to the platforms
with stepped clerestories linking with platform canopies.
