Description

In the entry for:
TENTELOW LANE
TQ 17 NW
4/25 (North West Side)
29.9.76 Norwood Green
No.15
GV (Former Norwood Free
School)

The grade shall be upgraded to grade II* (star) and the description
shall be amended to read:

"A Free School erected by E B 1767" inscribed in stone plaques at first
storey above door. Two storeys. Three bays with central entranced
door. Brown brick with tile roof. Casement windows to ground storey,
semi-circular heads. Casement windows to first storey segmental heads.
Doorway has semi-circular head with fanlight and keystone. One bay
wing right with lean-to roof. Inside, ground floor fireplace has brick
chimney breast with plastered upper section painted with scene,
possibly depicting the Three Ages of Man, having representations of a
boy holding the hand of a young man in clerical-type dress, and an old
man seated between Gothic piers. This painting, probably for a
schoolroom overmantel decoration, is a rare piece of such decoration,
and possibly unique. Accordingly, the building is graded at II*.
