GV II

Public House. Early C16 with cross-wing added later in the same century;
late C19 alterations and further C20 alterations. Close-studded timber-
framing with plastered C20 infill and some wattle-and-daub infill remaining
on sandstone rubble plinth; brick shaft to stack and tiled roof. Three-bay
earlier house aligned east/west with cross-wing at east end; main axial stack.
Two storeys with jettied upper floor to south front. Moulded bressummer, curved
brackets with foliage and rose decoration, shafts to main post below and plain
curved brackets to jetty of later wing. Two 3-light leaded casement windows to
upper floor, canted bay windows flank blocked entrance with decorative carved
doorhead. Gable end of cross-wing to right with 3-light casement windows;
doorway to left of window on ground floor with 6-panelled door. Interior
retains moulded ceiling beams. (RCHM, Vol III, p 164, item 11).
