Farmhouse, and adjoining outbuilding. Early C16, part rebuilt or extended
in C17, with further mid-C19 alterations. Timber-framed with rendered infill
on rubble base, part rendered with some painted rubble refacing; plain tiled
roofs with brick stack -to main ridge. Hall and cross-wing plan. Main range
of three framed bays aligned east/west with large chimney between west and
central bay. Cross-wing of two framed bays situated at west end with external
rubble chimney (largely rebuilt in brick and rubble) at west side. In the C17
an east cross-wing of four framed bays was rebuilt or added (now outbuilding)
and an upper floor was inserted in the main block. Part two storeys, part
single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: main range has three panels
from sill to wall-plate and some short straight upper corner braces. No
trusses visible externally. East cross-wing has two rows of close-set studding
per storey to north front end and the first floor is jettied on shaped brackets.
Elsewhere the cross-wing has four rows of square panels and there is a collar
and tie-beam truss with struts exppsed at the south gable end. North front
elevation: main range has three ground floor 3-light casements (one is larger
than the others and has a cambered head). There are two gabled dormers; one
is C17 and has a 5-light chamfered mullioned and transomed window, the other
is C19 and has a 3-light casement. Main entrance to left-of centre has a lean-
to canopy on straight timber brackets and a half-glazed door. Also ledged and
battened door at eastern end. East cross-wing gable end has a large 3-light C19
casement and an original small 3-light ovolo-mullioned window on the ground
floor and a 5-light first floor casement with a plank weathering. In the angle
on the ground floor there is a restored 2-light chamfered-mullioned window
with a plank weathering. C19 lean-to outshut at west side and also lean-to
addition to rear of main range. Interior: there are some C17 stop-chamfered
ceiling beams. Ground floor room of main range has run-out moulded chamfer
stops and there is a large fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The room above
has an exposed cusped swept wind-brace. There are also some original arched
doorheads. Outbuilding; adjoins east end (see above). Rubble with some weather-
boarded timber-framing and corrugated metal roof. Four framed bays. Partly two
levels. North gable end has a rectangular ground floor window, an attic light
and a ledged and battened door. Interior: wall-framing has two rows of large
panels from sill to wall-plate and some short straight upper corner braces.
Roof has mainly collar and tie-beam trusses with struts and three tiers of
