Circa 1750. 2 storeys and attics in red brick with new pantile roof with 2
altered gabled dormers. C19 wood console eaves cornice. 2 windows each with
replaced glazing bars. Ground floor windows also have renewed glazing bars,
and shutters. Wood doorcases, probably re-used from Hotham House, enriched with
finely-carved mouldings to architraves, transom and dentil cornices, plain
friezes. 6 fielded panels to doors. Round-headed garden doors at ends.
Interior contains what is almost certainly William Thornton's joinery from the
demolished Hotham House, which stood immediately opposite. Staircase of No 26
has closed string, plain newels, moulded handrail, and balusters with octagonal
lower parts, tapering downwards, and vase-shaped upper parts. Two chimney
pieces on first floor with carved architraves, and carved and moulded mantel
shelves. Landing has window with panelled window seat. One ground floor room
has carved and moulded wooden cornice to ceiling. Staircase of No 28 has open
string, plain newels, moulded handrail, balusters like those in No 26, and a
semi-spiral curtail. Landing window has fielded panelled seat. One door in hall
has carved and moulded architrave.
