HATHEROP
NETHERTON
Nos 43-44

(Formerly listed as Nos 43 and 44)

II

Pair of cottages. Originally one probably of late C17, enlarged to two in early C19. Random coursed rubble stone, stone slate roof, two stone ridge stacks and one end stack to far left. Single range, single storey and attic. No 43 is original cottage with small attic gable to left and former end stack to right with newel stair lit by small single light. Central boarded door in plain wood surround, with projecting gabled porch probably of time of extension for No 44, into main room with additional small room to left with two-light wood casement with timber lintel as in attic gable above, both with slate sills.

Enlarged carefully in same style for No 44 with attic gable to right, two two-light wood casements on ground floor and similar porch on left-hand side with door at front of porch rather than flush with wall. The two attic gables and porch gables all in same design with triangular timber frame exposed. Additional small single storey wing on left of No 43 with two-light wood casement and end stone stack.
