5/7 Gatepiers and gates at Ampney
Park and adjoining curved walling

Pair of gatepiers and flanking curved wall, with third pier at
right hand end. Probably late C19. Square piers of ashlar on
plinth with 3 projecting plain bands, one at base and 2 below wide
moulded cornice, with stepped cap rising to large ball finial.
About 5m total height. Coursed and dressed stone wall with moulded
coping curves forward for about 4m on both sides, sweeping down
after about 1.5m and ending in third identical pier on right hand
end. On left hand side small additional gateway with chamfered and
stopped jambs and moulded cornice, and to far left on return of
wall 2 square openings in similar surrounds. Wrought-iron gates to
both gateways and grilles to openings all in matching scroll
design. Large main gates have additional decorative section across
top with acanthus leaf motif.
