churchyard of the Church of St.
Peter, between the W. Mason
and W. Trinder monuments
GV II

Staggered row of four headstones clm east of the Mason and Trinder
monuments (q.v.) and single headstones c2.5m to the west and up to
c4m to the east. Limestone. Early C18.
Single headstone on eastern edge of group, facing east. Almost
illegible inscription plaque with date 1717. Round-headed stone
with skull at centre top with double proboscis-like scrolls from
mouth of skull. Scrollwork either side of head. Raised margins
either side of inscription.
Headstone c2m west, facing west. Almost illegible inscription.
Cherub's head at centre top with scrollwork either side. Deeply
carved fruit and flowers below the head. Large egg and dart
moulding to margin of inscription plaque.
Headstone facing west, clm north-west of the William Mason monument
at the end of a row of three headstones. Almost illegible
inscription. Raised moulded margin with small segmental-headed
bulge in margin at centre top containing a flower. Scrollwork
above margin.
Headstone cl.5m north, facing east. Illegible inscription with
moulded margin stepped up over small winged cherub's head at centre
top. Scrollwork either side. Marginal panels with ribbon ties and
hanging bellflower.
Headstone c0.2m north (facing west) with round head. Raised margin
with the initials 'R.H.' in large raised letters, date probably
below ground level.
Headstone c2.5m west of row of three headstones, facing west.
Illegible inscription with moulded hood with small winged cherub's
head at centre top. Scrollwork above. Marginal panels with ribbon
ties at top and hanging bellflower.
