SNOWSHILL SNOWSHILL VILLAGE SP 0833-0933 12/47 Garden Wall and Lodges to south of Snowshill Manor GV II Garden wall, 2 former stables, now entrance shop and W.C., gateway between. C17, C18, early C19. Coursed squared stone, changing to squared stone brought to courses, ashlar top to wall, small, squared stone to lodges, stone slate roofs, ashlar wall between. Long wall from Manor House between garden and road, 2 single-bay buildings at right angles with gateway between. Wall viewed from garden: plinth for about 27m, blocked doorway near house, evidence of former stepped top to wall (clearer on road side). Two-course, ridged stone top. Top ramps down slightly at 4 points; two lean- to buttresses just before gateposts. Wall changes construction at about 27m from house, angle slightly at 31m, ends at 52m, where returns 2m to first lodge. Lodges viewed from outside garden: on right garden wall returns to rear corner of lodge. Boarded door with timber lintel on left of front. To left ashlar wall, slightly projecting pier, each end, plain plinth, doorway with stone lintel centre, bottom half door boarded, upper half diagonally-set bars. Above plain coping, quadrant up to end piers, each with weathered cap. Similar building to left, but with stone lintel to doorway. Important features in garden and street scene: forms group with Manor House, Manor Cottages and Church (all q.v.).
