SU 43 SE LITTLETON CHURCH LANE

6/5 Monks Rest

GV II

Cottage, formerly priests house and school. C15, C18 and C19. Timber-frame
with flint and brick infill, on sides encased in brick, later additions in
brick and flint, old plain tile roof. End on to road small 2 bay C15 house
with wing to rear at road end early C18 and C19 schoolroom to far end. Road
gable end has in centre large added C16 stack of brick and flint chequerwork
with stone dressings and brick upper part. To right ground floor rebuilt but
lst floor has close studding with flint infill and wattle and daub in gable.
To left is brick infill with 2-light casement just below tie and left of it
side of C18 wing of brick and some flint with C19 stack on side. Churchyard
side 2 storey and cellar, 2 bay, far bay has outshot with door in roadside,
C19 2-light casement in front. C19 5-light casements in other bay with
2-light casement to cellar near road end. On 1st floor C19 2-light gabled
dormer on outshot, 2 and 3 lights in other bay. Medieval style ridge tiles
with combs.
