COLATON RALEIGH
CHURCH ROAD, Colaton Raleigh
No.1 Drupes Cottages and Rose Cottage

GV
II

Pair of cottages. Probably C17 origins, much rebuilt in the late C19. Front wall
is plastered cob on stone rubble footings, most of the rest is plastered late C19
brick; brick stacks with late C19 Rolle Estate chimney pots; thatch roofs.
Pair of cottages. The left one, No.1 Drupes Cottages, is a 2-room plan cottage and
the right one, Rose Cottage, is a 1-room plan cottage. End stacks, the right one
shared by No.2 Baileys Cottages (q.v.). Both are 2 storeys.
The 4-window front of C20 replacement casements with glazing bars is not quite
symmetrical. Both doors are C20 plank doors with windows and both have C20 concrete
steps to the road. The roof is gable-ended and rises higher than the barn (q.v.) to
left and Baileys Cottages (q.v.) to right.
Interiors show only late C19 detail as modernised in the C20. The beams are
unchamfered. Roof not inspected.
These cottages form a group with the barn (q.v.) and Nos. 1 and 2 Baileys Cottages
(q.v.).
