4/6 Gate House Farmhouse

House. Probably c1600 with C19 alterations. Timber-framing and brick
with tile roof. Two storeys. South facade of brick, of two bays with
casement windows and a door between bays under an open timber porch. At
the left is a cross-wing with rendered front wall. This has two windows
on each floor, the ground floor ones adjacent. Chimneys to right of doorway
and on left-hand wall of cross-wing. The latter has a projecting stack with
diagonal shafts, one now truncated. The right-hand (east) gable wall has
exposed close-studded framing. The truss has two raking struts, two central
vertical struts, and V-struts above the collar. Interior: not accessible
at time of survey (June 1986).
