Gatelodge to Ashridge, now a private house. Probably C17, gothicised in
early C19, with rear (N) extensions. Red brick with old red tile roofs.
Thin walls on N and E of old S range may indicate timber framing. A 2
storeys and attic, 2-cells, internal chimney, lobby-entry plan house
facing S, with C19 2 storeys rear wing and lean-to extension on E and
gabled E extension to rear wing. Black headers in S front, floor band,
dentilled eaves, 2 windows to each floor with central door. Chamfered
segmental arches to each 3-light lattice leaded casement. Gothick
bargeboarded 2-light dormer on roof slope to W of large central chimney
with conjoined diagonal shafts. 4-centre arched doorway with half-glazed
double doors. Canted bay window on W end commanding the drive.
