Remains of C11 and C12 motte and bailey castle. Earthwork mound, flint walling. Large oval motte, 40 ft high, with ruins of C12 shell keep on top perimeter. Remains of chambers in northeast and southeast angles. Roughly pentagonal bailey to south has water courses on four sides. Now public tennis courts and gardens; wooded with grand avenue. Scheduled Ancient Monument. (RCHM (1911)).
