C15/C16 and later. Plastered 2 storey, 2 window, timberframe house with
steep old red tile roofs. Early jettied and gabled cross wing on E
extending to rear in near contemporary 2-bay section. Large red brick
central chimney in English bond with 3 diagonal engaged shafts and
additional shaft on E. Corresponding W gable added C17/early C18 in a
conscious attempt at symmetry when E jetty was underbuilt. This was
reinstated in 1981. C19, 3-light mullioned and transomed wooden windows to
1st floor. Central 4-panel flush door in C18 doorcase with heavy frame
shaped brackets and moulded flat hood. Modern mullioned shop windows to
E and W. Crown post roof exposed in cross wing. Brick fireplace with
chamfered 4-centred arch on Gd floor. Rear part of cross wing has separate
side stair and gable chimney. An interesting survival in the town centre.
