House. c1590. Red brick in English bond with burnt brick diapering and
stone dressings, plain tile roof. Originally 2 storeys, 4 bays. Only the
right bay preserves this arrangement: the remainder of the house was
converted to 3 storeys in c1840. Rear staircase projection under pentice
roof, mid C18 rear wing. Raised plinth, stone quoins. Central door of 6
raised and fielded panels with fanlight with radial glazing in pilastered
doorcase under open pediment. Right bay has 5-light ovolo-moulded mullion
and transom window under hoodmould with lozenge stops: remaining bays have
25-pane unequal sashes under segmental brick arches. First floor: 5-light
ovolo-moulded mullioned and transomed window under hoodmould with lozenge
stops to right bay; elsewhere 25-pane unequal sashes. Second floor (left
bays only): 25-pane unequal sashes. Dentilled brick eaves cornice, raised
coped gables, end and axial stacks - the end stacks of linked triple square
flues. Due to the adjustment of floor levels of c1840 the ground floor to
the right bay is considerably higher than that to the remaining bays:
beneath it is a basement lit by 2-light mullioned windows. Right elevation:
2-light square headed window to basement; ground floor: two 3-light
mullioned and transomed windows; first floor: moulded band, 2 similar
(blocked) 3-light mullioned and transomed windows with painted glazing.
Blocked 2-light window to attic. Interior: early C19 cut-string stair with
turned balusters and moulded handrail. Although most of the interior
fittings date from the remodelling of the house there are several early C18
3-panel bolection moulded doors with their original catches.
