7/300 Barn and attached former
Cowhouse at little Kendals
II Farm.


Barn and attached cowhouse. Late C18, the cowhouse of later build; later
alterations. Timber-framed with weatherboard cladding ; plain tile roofs.
5-bay barn with central opposed cart entries ; lower, 3-bay, cowhouse
attached to west end. Barn : some old weatherboard on south side and
to 2 eastern bays on north side. Doors removed. Added midstray on south
side in dilapidated condition. Added outshuts flank cart-entries on
each side ; those on south side are under catslide roofs, that on right
(east) C19 ; the other outshuts are later and not of special interest.
Cowhouse: north and south sides each have a stable door to centre bay
and a small window to west bay ; west (gable) end has a later stable
door. Interior : barn: timber frame is complete, having: sole plate
; unjowelled wall posts with long slightly-curved braces to tie-beams
; queen strut to principal rafters; staggered butt purlins; old rafters
(no ridge-piece). Walls have narrow panels and long raking braces.
Bays 2 and 4 have later purlins and intermediate collars, nailed in place.
Cowhouse: collared queen-strut roof trusses; through purlins; old rafters
(no ridge-piece). Later stall partitioning and board lining of walls.
