Bentley Heath Lodge

GV II


Entrance gates and piers to Wrotham Park (q.v.). Probably 1865 by S.S.
Teulon with Bentley Heath Lodge (q.v.) for G. Byng, 2nd Earl of
Strafford. Coursed limestone rubble piers, wrought iron gates and
railings. Carriage entrance to left and smaller entrance to right with
quadrants out to flanking piers. All 6 piers are square with bases and
cornices, those to carriage entrance are tallest and are surmounted by a
lion and a unicorn both holding shields. Smaller pair to right have
pyramidal heads. Outer piers have ornamented ball finials. Ornamental
gates and heads to railings. Included for group value.
