Villa, now flats and attached railings. c1832-4, for Lt-Col William Munro of the East India Company; with later additions and alterations including outshut to rear. Brick with stucco facades and slate roof with iron railings. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 3 first-floor windows. Stucco detailing (which continues to right return) includes horizontal rustication to ground floor, first floor plat band surmounted by Doric pilasters to first floor, paired at ends and between windows, cornice; over second floor a cornice and blocking course. Central solid entrance porch has paired Doric pilasters, architrave, frieze and cornice with blocking course, flight of 4 roll-edged steps to 6-panel door between pilaster strips and side-lights and with overlight with glazing bars, within solid porch with paired Doric pilasters. Ground floor has tripartite windows with narrow 2/2 sashes with lancet glazing to heads and margin-lights. First floor has similar paired windows with margin-lights. Second floor has 6/6 sashes. Basement has 8/8 sashes with margin-lights. Right end stack with cornice. Right return has blind openings. Rear has 6/6 sashes, some with margin-lights. Left return: 1 window deep; blind openings. Rear retains 6/6 sashes and 8/8 sash with margin-lights. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: ornate scrolled railings to sides of steps. HISTORICAL NOTE: built as part of the development of this area undertaken for Joseph Pitt in 1825-42. (Blake S: Pittville: 1824-1860: Cheltenham: 1988-: 67).
