Description

HARTLAND
SS 22 SE

4/132 Gorran's Down
-

- II

House. Probably later C17 but little evidence for dating survives. Extended in
C19. Rendered probably rubble walls with some cob. Thatch roof gabled to right end
and hipped to left. 2 brick stacks, one axial and one at right gable end.
Plan: original plan unclear owing to the C20 alterations, currently 2 large rooms
but may in fact have originated as 2 2-room plan cottages since a central thick wall
divides the house adjoining the axial chimneystack. C19 outshuts added along rear
wall and at left-hand end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front of late C19 4-pane sashes on the
1st floor and later C20 2-light casements below. C20 gabled porch to right of
centre with glazed door. Lean-to outbuilding/store against left-hand end.
Interior: exhibits few early features at present although there is evidence that a
C17 fireplace may survive at the right-hand end. Roof structure consists of C18 or
C19 straight principal rafters.
