DOLTON
SS 51 SE
5/60 Woolridge Farmhouse
II
Former farmhouse. Early C17 possibly with earlier origins. Plastered cob walls.
Gable-ended thatch roof. Rendered rubble axial stack.
Plan: 3-room with baffle entry in front of axial stack between left-hand and
central room which is probably hall. Unheated service room to its right. Beyond
that is a long barn which is probably an C18 addition.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of C19 and early C20 small-paned
2-light casements. Slight projection to left of centre in front of baffle entry
with small single C20 light on 1st floor. C20 gabled porch in front of this
projection with plank door. Straight joint between house and long barn at right-
hand end which has corrugated iron roof. It has a single light C20 window to the
left and a 3-light C20 casement at the centre in the blocked cart entrance between 2
rubble buttresses. Doorway to its right.
Interior: hall and left-hand room have substantial cross beams - those to the hall
are chamfered and stepped open fireplace to hall with chamfered wooden lintel.
Roof timbers may also be of interest.
