SAMPFORD SPINEY SX 57 SW 7/95 Huckworthy Lodge - II

House. Early-mid C19 with some C20 alterations. Rubble, rendered and lined out, granite dressings, slate roofs with raised coped verges and crestings to front wing, stack at gable end to right and rear. Irregular T-plan formed by front wing, rear parallel service wing. Tudor Gothic style. 2 storeys and 4 bays, bay to left has C20 conservatory attached, inner 3-light tall hollow-chamfered plateglass window, smaller 2-light window under eaves; second bay projects with 2-light window with 4-centred arched lights, cross glazing, recessed spandrels and hood-mould, 2-light window above as to left and shield with hood-mould in gable end, left side of wing has 4-centred arched hollow-chamfered doorway with 4- panelled door and hood-mould on corbels, right side has blocked lancet at ground floor. Third bay has 3-light plain window at ground floor and 2-light under eaves, fourth bay has 5-light bay window at ground floor and 3-light above in gable; plinth. Right return has blank gable end to front range, rear parallel range set back has 3- light C20 casement at ground floor, 2-light granite to each side, set in angle with rear wing; rear wing has C20 ground and first floor light and second lean-to with 2 doors and single light. Left return has 2-span roof over 2 gable ends, to right with 2-light ground floor window with 4-centred arched lights and hood-mould, 3-light plain granite window at first floor; to left 3-light ground floor and 2-light first floor windows with pointed arched lancet above in gable end. Interior not accessible, front rooms have 4-panelled doors, panelled shutters to windows and plain cornices.
