Description

SS 92 SE MOREBATH MOREBATH

6/134 The Thatched Cottage
-

GV II

Cottage. C17 or earlier, some C19 reconstruction. Whitewashed and rendered;
thatched roof, hipped at left end, gabled at right end; projecting stone stack at
right end with tall brick shaft, rear left lateral stack. Rear wall rebuilt in
brick.
Plan: Plan form unclear as no access to interior at time of survey (1986) but it
seems likely that the building was originally larger and has been truncated at the
right end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 1 window front, blind at the left. Front door
with porch hood to right of centre; 2-light casement with glazign bars to right of
doors, 2-light first floor casement above.
Interior: not inspected but early features may survive. The roof structure may be of
interest and the suggested dating might need revising on an interior inspection.
