Early C18. Red brick; 2 storeys; 5 flat-headed window. Moulded wood
doorcase with Ionic columns and open pediment. Stringcourse. Wood
modillion eaves; old tiles; 3 dormers. Attributed to Wren, but this
is very doubtful. Sun-dial dated 1538 on lawn, but not in situ. This
house was intimately associated with Joanna Southcott, the prophet,
whose box containing the"Panacea" was here deposited for many years.

The listed buildings in Church Road and Rectory Road, Old Swinford
do not strictly present a group, but the existing picture is one
which should be preserved.
