SX 65 SW HOLBETON 5/113 Gate piers, gates, walls and terraces immediately north and east of Flete
GV I
Two pairs of gate piers and forecourt and terrace walls to Flete House qv. 1878 by R. Norman Shaw. Pair of large ashlar gate piers in front of entrance with fluting in fielded panels, moulded cornices, caps with Vitruvian scroll friezes, and ball finials Wrought-iron gates with elaborate overthrow. Low forecourt walls either side with moulded saddle-back coping, around forecourt with pedestrian gateway to lower terrace on east side with four-centred moulded arch between gate piers which have ball finials. The terrace to the east of the house has stone revetments with weathered buttresses and saddle-back coping, and overlooks the park to the east through which flows the River Erme. Included as Grade I as part of Norman Shaw's overall design.
