Filham Mine Engine House

A Grade II Listed Building in Ermington, Devon

Filham Mine Engine House

Uploader's Comments

This picture of Filham Mine Engine House was taken in November 2012. The shaft, reported to be 78 fathoms deep, lies off the right side of the picture, the tree being on the edge. It is reported to be open but capped and flooded almost to collar. There is evidence that the collar is collapsing, and the dispostion of tree roots indicates significant subsidence is taking place. This situation renders this a very dangerous site. The shaft is unfenced, looks benign to the untrained eye but could collapse without warning, possibly taking the remains of the building with it.
