Road bridge over River Avon, formerly pack horse bridge, later widened. C17 and
C18 or C19. Granite, in 2 segmental arches over 2, non-concentric semicircular
arches, each with good flush voussoirs. Central triangular cutwater each side
finishing at height of arch crown. Parapet rounded on-edge graniter with
vertical through-stones. Above the arches, built flush in stonework a series
of vertical stones brought to level top, as if for an earlier parapet, but if
so would be at road level. Parapets to flated ends with stepped parapet stones,
but at north end the parapet to west continues for c.9m and returns to left
for short distance to a straight joint in the wall, followed by c.23m of wall
in a series of 17 bays with vertical through-stones. Parapets are c.lm high
from roadway c.2.25m wide.
