COLCHESTER SIR ISAAC'S WALK

GV II

House, C16 and early C19. Timber framed and rendered with red
brick front and east flank walls. Roofs are gabled and of plain
tiles behind, stepped, plain parapet. Of 2 storeys with later
rear extensions. Front has, on first floor, 2 recessed double
hung sash windows with 3 vertical glazing bars (modified margin
glazing), stone cills and rendered arches with fluted keystones.
Ground floor has 2 similar windows and C20 glazed door under
similar rendered head. Interior reveals, formerly jettied cross-
wing of probable C16, of very narrow span and with miniature
crown-post roof. The east flank has curved wall bracing probably
towards former hall where there is now a later structure. Jowled
posts and gable to rear.
