Gate-piers within grounds of former Naval Hospital. c1810,
probably by Daniel Alexander (1768-1846) with carvings by CR
Smith. Rusticated limestone piers, each pier with pedimented
cap over carved relief and fretted band in Greek Revival
manner. One of the piers is resited. Also resited are the mid
C19 iron studded gates with open cast-iron top panels, each
gate with turned frieze above ornate scrollwork with Victoria
coat of arms to centre and 3 small fielded bottom panels
within bolection mouldings.
Part of an outstanding and complete military hospital complex.
