Railway station, built c.1846 for the Bedford Branch of the old London North
Western Railway. Mostly has roughcast render with ornamental applied timber
framing. Other parts of yellow brick with red brick dressings. C20 tiles to
most roofs, although some retain fishscale tiles. One storey and attics
cross-plan. Picturesque style. NW elevation (towards platform): applied
timber framing is in cross and herringbone pattern. Projecting gable has
projecting rectangular bay to ground floor, containing mullion and transom
windows and with hipped sash window with drip mould. Gable is flanked by
verandah porches, their braces forming pointed arches. LH block nas jettied
upper floor and small gabled dormer. Gables have pierced decorative
bargeboards with finials. Brick ridge stack to projecting gable, gable end
stack to LH block. The down platform has a tongue and groove plank shelter
with plain valance.
