House, formerly a rectory. C18, reworking an earlier structure, substantially
extended C19 (plaque: "Rebuilt AD 1884 J.S. Wood DD, Rector"). Variety of red
brick, that to C18 chequered with vitrified headers. Earliest structure may
contain timber framing, since its SE gable is rendered with substantial clunch
plinth. Clay tile roofs. Complex plan. Oldest part to NE, the C18 part
adjoins to SW and the C19 addition encloses this on SW and NW sides to form
overall rectangular plan. C18 part of 2 storeys and attics, other parts 2-
storeyed. Variety of windows, mostly sashes with glazing bars. This part has
blocked central doorway to NE elevation. C18 part has C20 2 storeyed canted
bay to SE elevation. To R of this the doorway contains 6 fielded-panel door
surmounted by rectangular fanlight with ornamental glazing bars. Simply
moulded surround with flat hood. Interior: staircase retains turned
balusters. Kitchen fireplace in C19 part has 3 curious moulded heads,
possibly reset from elsewhere.
