ST 66 SW COMPTON DANDO

6/48 Compton Cottage

G.V. II

Farmhouse. Dated 1656 on internal plasterwork; remodelled, and restored
1970s - 1980s. Rubble with double Roman tiled roof. 2 storeys. 3 windows:
C20 2-light casements. Central C20 porch and gabled extension to east;
further extension at west end. Interior. Deeply chamfered beams with step
and run-out stops. The east room has an ovolo moulded lintel over the
fireplace and a fine plaster overmantel decorated with strapwork, roses,
quatrefoils, central shield, initials and date: IA/E 1656. This cottage is
included primarily for the interior details.
