Entrance screen and lodges to Tyringham House; 1793-1797 by Sir John
Soane. Roman cement with stone dressings, string courses. South or
entrance elevation has segmental architrave with incised lines around arch
and a wide band at springer level with single line at top and an incised
reeded moulding at foot. This band is carried round the flanking wings
forming cornice string and parapet The centre block is crowned by a
similar incised moulding and blocking course. On the return faces are
single sash windows in arched recesses. The soffit of the archway is
coffered. In each of the flanking one storey wings is a recessed section
with semi-circular headed niche adjoining the centre block and outer
slightly projecting pavilions with one sash window flanked by plain
Greek Doric columns in antis. North front is similar but in place of
window in pavilions is a 6-panelled flush door and in place of niche
a sash window.
