17/12 Undercroft in the garden of Hurley

Undercroft to the former Ladye Place. C16. Brick with stone dressings. L-plan of 4 x 2
bays, partly underground, the top overgrown with foliage. A small closet opens out on
the south, at the end opposite to the foot of the L. The main chamber has 4 bays and
is divided by square brick piers, placed centrally east-west, from the abaci of which
spring groined brick vaults. In the south wall are two, 3-light square-headed windows
with moulded stone mullions and jambs; in the west wall of the projecting wing and the
east wall of the closet there are similar single-light windows. The entrance is from
the north, but the undercroft may have originally extended further to the north over
this area. Semi-derelict at time of resurvey.
