6/82 Cottage and attached
pottery workshop at
5.3.86 Prairie Farm

II

Cottage with pottery workshop attached left. Early C19 with C20 rear wing.
Cottage and workshop have whitewashed roughcast cob walls. Later extension in
cavity wall brick. Slate roofs with brick stack to right gable. House 2
storeys, 2 window range. Workshop single storey, single bay. 2-light timber
casements with full glazing bars to the ground floor and horizontal glazing
bars above. House has central part glazed panelled door in C20 glazed, gabled
timber porch. Workshop has part glazed plank door. Although not of great
architectural interest the cottage and workshop together constitute
the principal building of one of the last remaining intact Verwood pottery
works. They are thus of considerable archaeological importance. The
remainder of the site which includes kiln mould and outbuildings has been
scheduled as an ancient monument.
