Description

HOLT
SU 00 SW LONG LANE

9/70 Old Dairy House, Long
Lane Farm

CV II

Farmhouse. C17 origin, enlarged in C19. Original section originally timber
framed; front wall rebuilt or refaced in brick, - colourwashed. Half hipped
thatched roof, brick stack near right end. Possibly originally of open hall
form. One storey and attic. C20 part glazed door under flat hood on shaped
brackets. Ground floor has 3 casements with glazing bars under segmental
arches. Attic has 3 dormers with casements with glazing bars. Left section -
early to mid C19 has brick walls, slate roof, one brick stack near centre. 2
storeys. Ground floor has one casement with glazing bars under segmental
arches. 2 similar windows on first floor. Wing at rear of older section,
probably C18, of brick, with thatched roof, - also small C20 lean-to
addition at rear. Internally, main ground floor room in original section
has large open fireplace, part built up, most original timbers covered, but
exposed timber frame partition between original and C19 sections suggest that
the latter replaces an earlier range.
