GV II

Deatched cottage. Mid-late C17. Rubble stone walls, stone slate roof, stone end and
centre stacks. At right angles to road. One storey and attic. West (entrance) front
has lean-to extension at right-end. Part-glazed door. Ground floor has 3 casement
windows with glazing bars - evidence of former stone mullions. Attic has 2 pent-roofed
½ dormers with casements. Carved stone corbel over door. Main ground floor room has
large open fireplace with timber lintol and bread oven. Some chamfered ceiling beams.
Massive roof trusses, possibly originally jointed crucks. Attached outbuildings at
rear, of similar construction; some roofs replaced in corrugated asbestos. Reputedly
the home of Gulliver, the noted Dorset Smuggler. RCHM Monument 7 (Dorset Vol II).
