A red brick octagonal tower with black brick quoins and diapering. Built
In 1877, it is of 4 stages surmounted by an open cupola with a fish scale
tiled ogee shaped roof. The upper stage is plastered, with corner pinnacles
and clock faces on the east and west sides. The 2nd storey has lancet
windows with lattice leaded lights. The 1st storey has casements with
stucco square hood moulds. The ground storey has three 4-centred arches
with hood moulds. Stucco moulded string courses run between the storeys.
Gabled wings with cut and shaped ornamental bargeboards extend to the
south on the east and west of the tower.
Nos 47 to 57 (odd), the school and Clocktower with No 30 and 44 to 50
(even) and Nos 1 and 2 Shore Road form a group. (Nos 47 to 53 (odd) and
Nos 48 and 50 are of local interest).
