Description

TL 4355 GRANTCHESTER MILL WAY
(West Side)

14/121 Nos 36 and 38 (Dove Cottages)

II

Dovecote, now house. C18. Timber-framed, renderd on high brick plinth and
tiled, hipped roof with gablets. Rectangular plan. Two storeys and attics.
Two gabled dormers. Casements. No framing visible, and the owners
description of the roof would suggest an C18 date, although the main posts
are of heavy scantling, and possibly reused. A lease of 1467 refers to a
dovecote here, but the present building is similar to the C18 dovecotes at
South Street, Comberton and High Street, Coton (qv).
