Milestone. C18. No. 9. Carved limestone block painted white with black
painted inscriptions. Crescent in a shield inscribed 'IX MILES To
CAMBRIDGE', pointing finger and defaced Roman numerals. One of sixteen
milestones on the old Cambridge to London road set up by William Warren in
1727-32 under the bequest of Dr William Mowse, Master of Trinity Hall 1552-53
for the upkeep of roads in and about Cambridge.
