Description


LINTON MAIN STREET SD 9862-9962 (south side, off) 12/66 Fountaine Inn 10.9.54 II Public house. Probably mid C18 with later alterations. Whitewashed rubble, graduated stone slate roof. 2-storey, 3-bay main range with lower 2-storey bay and lean-to to right. Quoins. Main range: C20 door in plain stone surround to right of centre, 3 unequally-hung sashes of 2 x 4 lights to ground floor, 2 to left and 1 to right of entrance, 3 similar windows to first floor. Stone gutter brackets. End stacks, corniced to left. C20 door to left in lower bay, also in plain surround; 6-pane casement window to right and a 2-light flat-faced mullion window to first floor; a tall banded stack to right; a small 6-pane casement to lean-to, with a blocked opening above. Included for group value.
