(south side)

4/77 Farmbuilding forming
south-west side of
farmyard at Home Farm

GV II

Combination farmbuilding now poultry house and piggery. Early C19.
For the Wentworth estate. Dressed sandstone, brick to rear; Westmorland
slate roof partly replaced by Welsh slate. Single storey. Elongated
range with continuous blind arcade of 30 elliptically-arched openings.
Right third of arcade with C20 recessed infill; horizontal-sliding door
to 2 end bays. To far left: 2 doors beneath large casement. Adjacent
bays of arcade, originally a cart shed, retain bollards at the feet of
the piers; openings now with boarding above a plinth wall. Remaining
bays mostly with original wallstone infill with an irregular rhythmn of
doors with overlights, original windows beneath flat arches (some infilled)
and blind windows. Eaves band, hipped roof with some rooflights and ridge
ventilators. Although altered, remains an important element in the
planned farm complex.
