Large farmhouse. Late C16, altered C18, extended C19. Brick, part mathematical
tiles, old tile and slate gabled roofs of varying heights. T-plan. 2 storeys
and attics. 2 flanking chimneys in older centre part with offset heads, the
right hand chimney with panelled sides; hipped dormer on west. North front:-
centre part. Mathematical tiles and battlemented parapet. 3 bays,
sash windows with glazing bars, the outer tripartite except large 3-light
casement to the right on ground floor. Central door, panelled with the top
glazed and leaded, in Doric doorcase of pilasters, entablature and pediment.
To the right, a slightly projecting gable, strings at first and second floor
levels, crow-stepped gable end. One bay. Sash windows with glazing bars and
segmental heads; tripartite on ground and first floors, 3 panes wide on attic
floor. Early C19 projecting wing on left with slate roof. 3-light upper and
single lower sashes with glazing bars on west return front. Interior contains
a late C16 staircase with square newels, turned balusters and moulded handrail.
Adjoining the road are C18 gate piers of brick with vermiculated bands, and C19
iron railings with spear heads. B.O.E. (Berkshire) p.151.
