Description

SJ 36 SE DODLESTON C.P. KINNERTON ROAD
(South west side)

2/37 No.1 (Post Office-Holly
Cottage) and No.2 The
Square

GV II

Pair of cottages, 1863, for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster. Brown
brick with grey slate gabled roofs. The cottages, each of 1½ storeys
and 2 bays, form an L, the shorter arm to Kinnerton Road and the
longer to the Square. Three gabled half dormers face the Square. Flat
gauged brick arches to openings in lower storey. No.2 retains iron
lattice casements in timber sub-frames; No.1 has 4-pane timber
casements; and a small hipped bay window in the gable facing Kinnerton
Lane, in unaltered openings.
Interiors not inspected.
The cottages around the Square (nos.3-4 and 5-6 q.q.v) comprise a
small formal layout, unusual on the Eaton Estate.
