SX 36 NW CALLINGTON NEWBRIDGE

7/42 Cottage adjoining east of
Cobbledicks Cottage

GV II

Cottage, C17 remodelled in late C19. Rendered rubblestone with slate roof with
gabled ends. Eaves raised and pitch altered. Large stone projecting stack on right-
hand gable end. Brick shaft. Brick stack to rear. Originally 3 room and cross
passage plan. 2 storeys asymmetrical 4 window front with attempt to regularize
fenestration. Ground floor with late C19/C20 2-light casement without glazing bars
on left. Partly glazed early C20 panelled door with C20 gabled timber porch hood
over. Two 4-pane sashes to right. Above, two 2-light casements without glazing bars
on left and two 4-pane sashes on right. Right-hand corner chamfered. Originally on
side of old road which passed through Newbridge. Single storey rubblestone store on
right-hand gable end. Chamfered ceiling beams to right-hand ground floor room.
Later fireplace blocking earlier opening. Full roof timbers to earlier roof with
slightly chamfered, cambered collars. Later roof timbers added when pitch altered.
