3/12 Gatepiers to west
of former school

G.V. II

Gatepiers to west of former school. Probably late C18/early C19, possibly
re-used (from Raw Head farm, the home of the Sleddall family?). Each pier
rusticated stone with battered plinth and cornice; square in plan c.9 ft high.
Each pier surmounted by life-size cast iron running greyhound supported on
letter "S"; the Sleddall family badge. Low blocking wall inserted between.
Identical gatepiers used for north entrance of St Stephen's churchyard.
