SJ 4162 ECCLESTON C.P. OLD CHURCH LANE
(North End)

7/126 Walls and Gates between
Old Church Lane and Old
Churchyard

GV II

Sandstone wall, early C19, and timber gates, late C19 or after late
C19 design. Tooled coursed red sandstone blocks with steeply
weathered projecting copings. 3 chamfered square gateposts of
sandstone with projecting plinths and moulded caps. Framed 4-bar
gates; the carriage gate with 12 cross-braced panels and the footgate
with 6. Timbers stop-chamfered. The gates which hang on heavy
wrought iron hinges are of a design common to the village, probably by
John Douglas. A short curved section of later wall (included in
listing) links the churchyard wall to the former Institute.
