House, c.1880, for 1st Duke of Westminster, probably by John Douglas.
Rectangular 2 storey, 3 window, in Jacobean style, closely imitated.
Coursed tooled sandstone with dressed surrounds to windows and front
door (west). Westmorland green slate roof: sandstone-coped end gables
with chimney on each rebuilt in red brick. Moulded first floor
string: drip-moulds over door and upper windows. Iron casements with
leaded glazing: shaped upper panes (lower storey). Framed and boarded
shaped front door. 'L' shaped single storey outhouse to north linked
to house by sandstone yard wall. Plain sandstone garden wall, linked
to house, with square pyramid-topped gateposts. The left end of the
Post Office (q.v.) is built against rear of the Police House.
