2/29 Allgreave Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse, 1746, of red and buff coursed gritstone rubble
(colourwashed at front) with gabled Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone
chimneys on right gable and left of centre on ridge; chimney replaced
in brick on front gable. L-shaped with offset projecting wing, right;
the main wing is of 2 storeys and 3 windows. C19 or later rustic
gabled timber porch with latticework and mid C20 small-pane glazed
door. C20 timber casements in unaltered openings. Datestone over door
JG GG 1746.
Interior. Originally of 3 bays with doorway into left room; later
hall-passage occupies right end of that room. 2 chamfered oak beams.
Inglenook (fireplace replaced) against right wall of central room; the
firehood and 1 other oak beam (now cased) are stated to be carved. A
thin, plain single-stone baffle at inner end of ingle nook.
