(north side), Boulby.
2/3 Boulby Barns Cottage.

Pair of alum workers' cottages, mid C17, raised c.1700 and again in early
c19; now one house, with late C20 end extensions and porch. Dressed
sandstone, renewed clay pantile roof with stone ridge and gable copings,
block kneelers and rebuilt brick stacks. 2 storeys (originally single
storey), 4 windows. Paired central doorways, that to left partly blocked
and holding mid C20 casement, that to right in gabled porch with boarded
door and carved human mask in gable. Renewed horizontal sashes with
glazing bars in left-hand part; mid C20 casements in original openings in
right-hand part. 2 small blocked windows between floors. Late C20 moulded
eaves corbels. Late C20 extensions to left and right, in keeping, that to
right still under construction at time of survey. End stacks. Beamed
ceilings retained in right-hand part of house. Lean-to rear outshut is not
of interest.
